James Catchpole
アメリカ、ニューヨーク州出身。1997年に初来日。2007年、東京のジャズシーンに関する情報サイト「Tokyo Jazz Site」を立ち上げ、以来、世界中の映画監督やテレビ局などに情報を提供し日本のジャズの魅力を伝え続けている。2013〜2014年には、インターFM「OK Jazz with James Catchpole」のDJを務める。現在は自身のポッドキャスト番組「OK Jazz」を配信する傍ら、The Japan Timesをはじめジャズ関連の執筆活動もしている。

James Catchpole was born in Brooklyn, New York and is a 18+ year resident of Japan. He spends all his free time　wandering the Kanto area looking for jazz cafes, bars, clubs and record stores, which he documents on Tokyo Jazz Site.

For two years he hosted the OK Jazz radio show on InterFM Radio, currently the OK Jazz podcast. He is also co-contributor to the Tokyo Jazz Joints photo project, an ongoing effrot to visually capture and preserve the beauty and unique charm of the old Jazz dives of Japan.

曽根真央 / Mao Sone曽根麻央は、ジャズを基盤として日本の音やその他の民族音楽を融合させる、完成度の高い個性的なスタイルを持った日本人のトランペッター、ピアニスト、歌手、作曲家。また、トランペットとピアノの同時演奏という独特なスタイルでも知られている。

1991年生まれの曽根は、幼少期よりピアノを始め、8歳でトランペットを手にし、9歳で地元・流山市周辺での音楽活動をスタートさせる。18歳で日本を代表するドラマー猪俣猛グループに参加し、同年バークリー音楽大学より全額奨学金を授与され渡米。2016年には同大学の修士(Master)課程の第1期生として首席(summa cum laude)で卒業。在学中にはタイガー大越、ショーン・ジョーンズ、ハル・クルック等に師事。同時に、グラミー賞受賞ピアニスト、ダニーロ・ペレスの設立した教育機関、グローバル・ジャズ・インスティチュートに在籍し、ダニーロ・ペレス、ジョー・ロバーノ、ジョン・パティトゥッチ、テリ・リン・キャリントン等に師事、また彼らと共演。

これまでにニューポート、モントレー、モントリオール、トロント、ドミニカ共和国等の国際的なジャズ・フェスティバルに出演。2016年にはバークリー音楽大学とニューポート・ジャズフェスティバルの主催で開催された「第一回ニューポート・ジャズ・ワークショップ」で金管楽器とアンサンブルの講師を務めた。
2017年には自己のバンドを率いてニューヨークのブルーノートやワシントンDCのブルース・アレイ等、アメリカを代表する老舗ジャズクラブに出演 。

曽根は国際的に権威ある機関より名誉ある賞を数々受賞している。2014年度フィラデルフィアでの『国際トランペット協会インプロビゼーション・コンペティション』で１位優勝、同年ロサンゼルスで行われたジャズで最も厳格な大会『2014年度国際セロニアス・モンク・ジャズ・コンペティション』にて13人のファイナリストとして世界中の応募者の中から選出、2015年『流山市ふるさとづくり功労賞』受賞、2016年アムステルダム『”Keep An Eye” 国際ジャズアワード』にて１位優勝等、今後の活躍が期待されるマルチ・アーティストである。

Mao Sone is a professional trumpet player, pianist, vocalist, composer, and an educator from Japan currently living in New York City, who has strongly developed an identifiable style merging Japanese traditional sounds and the other cultures, using jazz as a medium. He is known for his unorthodox approach to playing both the trumpet and the piano simultaneously.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Mao became a local musician in his hometown, Nagareyama, at the age of nine. In 2010, He was granted a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, Mao studied with Tiger Okoshi, Sean Jones, and Hal Crook, as well as Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, and Joe Lovano at the Global Jazz Institute.

He shared the stages with Danilo Perez, Terri Lyne Carrington, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Tiger Okoshi and more. He performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Toronto Jazz Festival and more. He completed his master's degree in 2016. In 2017, he led his band to perform at Blues Alley(Washington DC) and New York Blue Note.

Mao has been awarded many accolades and honors, including first prize at International Trumpet Guild Improvisation Competition, being chosen as one of the 13 semi-finalists at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, Nagareyama City - Culture Prize and Distinguished Services Prize, and the first prize at "Keep An Eye" international jazz awards in Amsterdam as a part of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute.

今回のゲストは、この4月にメジャーデビューした曽根真央さん。

昨年アメリカより帰国し日本を拠点に移し活動。
トランペットとピアノの同時演奏という独特なスタイルでも知られる注目の若手ジャズ・ミュージシャンです。

番組ではトランペットとの出会いやアメリカと日本のジャズシーンの違いについてきいています。海外経験の長い曽根さんの流暢な英語と共にお楽しみください。

この他番組では日本人ジャズミュージシャンによる新作を紹介しています！

今回はNYを拠点に活躍する三富悠斗と金澤悠人によるデュオアルバムやベーシスト、中村健吾とスウェーデンのピアニスト、カール・フレデリック・オルジェとのデュオ作、サックス奏者、榎本秀一が、加藤崇之、米木康志、藤井信雄というカルテット編成で行ったライブレコーディングアルバムなど日本人ミュージシャンによる新作をお送りします。

この番組は日本のジャズを外国の方にも知っていただく為、基本的に英語でお届けしています。
