James Catchpole
アメリカ、ニューヨーク州出身。1997年に初来日。2007年、東京のジャズシーンに関する情報サイト「Tokyo Jazz Site」を立ち上げ、以来、世界中の映画監督やテレビ局などに情報を提供し日本のジャズの魅力を伝え続けている。2013〜2014年には、インターFM「OK Jazz with James Catchpole」のDJを務める。現在は自身のポッドキャスト番組「OK Jazz」を配信する傍ら、The Japan Timesをはじめジャズ関連の執筆活動もしている。

James Catchpole was born in Brooklyn, New York and is a 18+ year resident of Japan. He spends all his free time　wandering the Kanto area looking for jazz cafes, bars, clubs and record stores, which he documents on Tokyo Jazz Site.

For two years he hosted the OK Jazz radio show on InterFM Radio, currently the OK Jazz podcast. He is also co-contributor to the Tokyo Jazz Joints photo project, an ongoing effrot to visually capture and preserve the beauty and unique charm of the old Jazz dives of Japan.

1970年生まれ。1996年にバークリー音楽大学卒。同年、ジョージ・ラッセルが提唱したジャズ理論のリディアン・クロマチック・コンセプトの教員ライセンスを取得。1997年「phat」結成。2枚のアルバムをBlue Noteよりリリース。その後、「quartz-head」名義でエレクトロのシーンで活躍。現在は文学作品をテーマにした自身のアコースティック・トリオ（井野信義/w-bass、外山明/drums）や、山本達久/drumsとのグループ「煮えたぎった無秩序」を中心に活動。市野元彦/guitarの「rabbitoo」や芳垣安洋/drums率いる「Orquesta Libre」などさまざまなグループに参加。


Daisuke Fujiwara (tenor saxophone,Lydian Chromatic Concept Instructor)

He started playing the tenor saxophone at the age of nineteen. Graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1996 and studied with George Garzone, he is a licensed teacher of Lydian Chromatic Concept, a theory developed by George Russell. He returned to Japan in 1997 and formed his own band, 'phat'. Characterised by the introductions of rhythms inspired by minimal techno and electronic filters and effects on acoustic instruments, the group released two recordings on Blue Note/EMI Records that established him as one of the leading players in Japan.

His interest in bringing improvisation together with electronic music resulted in three solo recordings which include collaborations with the Detroit techno musicians such as Jeff Mills and Underground Resistance. Currently he leads a trio with Nobuyoshi Ino (bass) and Akira Sotoyama (drums) that aims to accumulate various aspects of free jazz, improvisations, and noise, and is also active in various ensembles such as Orquesta Libre, led by drummer Yasuhiro Yoshigaki, rabbitoo by guitarist Motohiko Ichino.

今回は今年5月に本人名義としては約12年ぶりとなる新作をリリースした、テナーサックス奏者、藤原大輔を特集！ 藤原さんといえばPhatのリーダーとしてブルーノート・レーベルからアルバムをリリース。90年代のジャムバンド・ムーブメントの旗手として一躍注目を集めた後もジャズとエレクトロを融合した２枚のソロアルバムをリリース。その後エレクトロニック・ ミュージックと即興演奏を取り入れた"quartz head"としても活動。

現在は自身の活動のほか、市野元彦の「rabbitoo」や芳垣安洋の「Orquesta Libre」といったグループでも活躍、ジャズを越境しボーダーレスに活動する希少なミュージシャンといえます。

今回番組では本人名義としては約12年ぶりとなる新作をリリースした藤原大輔を迎え、全編に渡りフィーチャー。オープニングからエンディングまで藤原さんと一緒に過去曲を聴きながらお送りします。
南米文学の偉人たちの小説から想起されたメロディーを元に作られた新作についても解説していただきました。

番組では毎回東京周辺のジャズスポットを紹介。今回紹介するのは荻窪のライブハウス、ベルベットサン。

スガダイローや大谷能生といった個性的なミュージシャンが定期的に企画ライブを開催。この他、読書会やトークイベントなども行うなど、ジャズをベースにした独自の東京カルチャー発信地として知られます。
今年8/8にリニューアルオープン。サウンドはもちろんフードメニューもより進化しています。
