JJazz.Net"THE SONG"では毎回、色々な方に「大切な曲」について語って頂きます。今回は、セカンドアルバム『Trippin'』をリリースしたEric Legniniさんが登場。思い出の曲をについてお話を伺いました。

僕にとって最も大切な曲の一つは、ダニー・ハザウェイが演奏するライブバージョンの「A Song For You」だ。まず、あの曲でのダニーの声は圧倒的で、愛と美しさに満ちている。メロディーは力強くて、本当に大好き！
そして、僕に娘が生まれて4日が経ち、彼女と一緒に病院から家に戻ったとき、ゆりかごの中の彼女に向かって簡単な曲を即興演奏したんだ。その瞬間はものすごく濃密だった。それから、ダニーの「A Song For You」がはいっているCDを聴きながら、娘を見つめて。。。この曲は、僕の人生の最も美し日々と一緒に永久に記憶されるよ。
ジョン・コルトレーン「Love Supreme」もまた、僕の最初のレコードといえる。12歳だったけれど今でもその新鮮さと力強さを覚えているよ。
コルトレーンとそのカルテットはまさにひとつの「声」。傑作だよ！！！
17歳のときにラジオで聴いた曲が、ウィントン・マルサリスの「Black Codes」(アルバム『Black Codes From The Underground』収録)だった。ケニー・カークランドのピアノソロが始まったとたんに興奮して、その夜は眠れなかった。朝になる頃には、僕はジャズを演奏したいってことに気づいたよ。ケニーに関してはもう1曲好きなのがある。スティングの曲、「Bring on The Night」(パリでのライブの模様を収録したアルバム『Bring On The Night』収録)だ。ケニーのその曲でのソロを何時間でも聴くよ。ケニー・カークランドのソロを聴くといつでも狂っちゃうよ！
子供の頃は、母はゴスペルの曲を歌っていたけれど、クラシック音楽を聴く家庭で育ったんだ。その頃聴いたサウンドをつくりかえたいと、いつも思っていたんだ。レイ・チャールズの曲「Them That Got」のレス・マッキャン バージョン(アルバム『The Dynamic Jazz Organ Of Richard "Groove" Holmes』でリチャード・"グルーブ"・オルムズとベン・ウェブスター共演)を発見したとき、ずっと探し求めていた音の断片をついに見つけた気分だったよ。その曲を聴いた時どんなにハッピーだったか想像できる？
長い間ブラジル音楽を聴いてきているけど、『Elis and Tom』の「Aguas de Marco」が特に好きだ。ミルトン・ナシメント抜きでエリス・レジーナを語るのは難しいね！！！
お気に入りの一曲は『Native Dancer』に収録されているウェイン・ショーターとハービー・ハンコックの「Tarde」だ。(そのアルバムの「Ana Maria」も好きだよ！)
ミルトン・ナシメントとちょうどアルバムを録音したんだ。昨日は「Tarde」、「Maria Maria」、「Travesia」、「Cais」を演奏したんだ。どれもすごく素晴らしい曲だよ！！！
彼と一緒に彼の曲を演奏できるなんて、忘れられない幸せだよ！！！
もちろん、子供の頃の経験とつながっているプッチーニの傑作でマリア・カラスが歌う「La Tosca」も大好きだ。
最高のパーティーやグルーブを思い起こさせるダンスフロアミュージックやソウルミュージックもあるよ！！！

スライ・アンド・ザ・ファミリー・ストーンの『There's A Riot Goin' On』収録の「Family Affair」。
ビョークの『Homogenics』収録の「Yoga」。
ジェイ・ディラがファーサイドのためにプロデュースした「Runnin'」やディアンジェロ『Voodoo』の「Spanish Joint」、『The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill』。。。

Let me know your weighty song for music life. In other words, important song
for you, and your music life.
So one of the most important song for me would be " A song for you" ; the Donny hathaway version, the Live one. First of all the power of the Donny's voice on that tune is just tremendous, full of love and beauty. The melody is so strong, I love it !
And then when my daughter was born, when we came back from the hospital and we were "home", she was 4 days, she was standing in the middle of the apartment in her cradle; I start to play on the piano, I was improvising a simple song, I could feel the deep intensity of that moment, then I put the CD with "A song for you", We start listening Donny and I looked at her ... This song would be endlessly connected to the most beautiful day of my life.
I could say also that one of my first record ever was Love supreme by John Coltrane. I was twelve years old and I can still remember the freshness and the energy of Resolution.
Coltrane and his quartet are one "Voice". A masterpiece !!!!
When I was 17 years old I heard a song on the Radio, it was "Black Codes" from Marsalis' record "Black Codes from the underground". I went crazy when the Piano solo started it was Kenny Kirkland, I could not sleep at all that night and by the morning I was sure I wanted to play Jazz music. About Kenny there is also a tune I love, Bring on the night, the Sting tune they play on the Bring on the night album, the Live in Paris. I would play over the record and the Kenny' solo for hours and hours ... Anytime I listen to the Kenny Kirkland' solo I go CRAZY !
During my childhood I grew up in a family listening a lot of classical music, still my mother was singing some Gospel tune, I'm sure I always wanted to recreate the sound I heard during my childhood. When I discover the Les McCann version of "Them That Got", a Ray Charles song with Richard "Groove" Holmes and Ben Webster on a Richard "Groove" Holmes called "Les McCann presents The Dynamic Jazz Organ of Richard Groove Holmes",
It was like I finally found a part of the sound I've been always searching. Can you imagine how much I was happy listening to that Track.
I've been listening Brazilian music for a long time I love particularly the version of "Águas de Março" on "Elis and Tom". It's hard to speak of Elis Regina without talking about Milton Nascimento !!!
One of my favorite tune is "Tarde" the version on "Native Dancer" with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. ( I love also "Ana Maria" on that album ! )
I just recorded an album with Milton Nascimento and at the moment I'm writing we are going on tour with him, yesterday we just play "Tarde", "Maria maria", "Travesia", "Cais" ... all very GREAT songs !!!
It's an unforgettable feeling of happiness to play his Music with him !!!
Of course connected to my childhood I love the Puccini masterpiece "La Tosca" with the interpretation of the Great Maria Callas.
Or more linked with the dance-floor or the Soul Music remembering huge PARTY and Groove !!!

1970年、エリック・レニーニはベルギー生まれ。イタリア移民でもある母親の影響でピアノをはじめ、14歳の頃キース・ジャレットの"スタンダーズ"を聴いて衝撃を受け、リリカルなピアノの世界で早くから才能を開花させた。20歳前からヨーロッパ各地のトップ・ミュージシャンと交流をはじめヨーロピアン・ジャズを牽引する存在として注目を浴び"ベルギーの逸材"と称された。90年代前半リーダー作を連続してリリースした後、N.Yにわたりリッチー・バイラークに2年間師事し、帰国後同郷ルーツをもつスティファノ・バティスタのレギュラー・ピアニストとして欠かすことの出来ない存在となる。バティスタ名義のBLUE NOTEからの3枚のアルバム、そしてライブでは大きな存在感となる。そして、リーダー作としては12年ぶりとなった2006年作『ミス・ソウル』ではジャズの歴史の中ではファンキー・ジャズ・ピアニストとして敬愛されるフィニアス・ニューボンJrへのオマージュ作品を発表しファンキーな路線変更した。キース・ジャレットに続くリリカルなピアノ・スタイルでヨーロピアン・ジャズ・ブームを作ったきっかけとなるような存在であっただけにその変身ぶりジャズ・ファンは度肝を抜かれた。ビョークのカヴァーなども取り入れた世代感はジャズ・ファンだけでなく幅広く市場に受け入れられフランスをはじめここ日本でも大きな注目を再び浴び始めた。本人曰く、"ターンテーブルを操るDJ達と同じく"ヒップホップやソウル / R&Bを基にしたレコードジャンキーでもあるが、自らグルーヴを作り出す先がもっともジャズ・ピアノであっただけでごく自然な作品欲であったとのことだ。2007年発表のヒット作『ビック・ブーガルー』は前作の路線にさらに名の通りラテンのリズムも取り入れた作品で世界的に高く評価された。かの寺島靖国氏も"こういう存在がヨーロッパから出てきた"と大絶賛した。（寺島氏は前回に続き今回もライナーノーツを執筆）ヒップホップやR&B系のアーティストの作品への参加などジャズ以外の仕事も多く、最近ではミルトン・ナシメントの最新作にアレンジも含め全面参加するなど超多忙である。
